Smithfield is a town that began in 1731 as an agricultural community, and today it has grown to provide a peaceful, quiet living space for its residents. The town is known throughout the state as “Apple Country” for its orchards, though many have been transformed into upscale homes. Located in Providence County, Smithfield homes offer a mix of suburban and rural amenities while being close to fun activities and great schools. Smithfield also has a thriving economy because several big companies have divisions here, including Fidelity Investments, Alexion Pharmaceuticals, and Navigant Credit Union.
Smithfield real estate is made up of mainly single-family homes, though there are also condos available for a lower-maintenance lifestyle. There are seven villages in the town, all with a variety of homes to suit many budgets and living needs. Smithfield homes include Colonial and Ranch designs, as well as large, upscale estates. These larger homes offer luxury amenities like hardwood floors and granite countertops. Some Smithfield homes have 2-car garages for those who need more vehicle space. The town has students from Bryant University, as well as families, so there is something for everyone.
Recreation in Smithfield takes advantage of the outdoor resources, and the town maintains several parks. Many include playgrounds, tennis and basketball courts, and baseball fields. Its trail offers a beautiful walk past the park’s gorge. To practice your skating skills, visit the Smithfield Municipal Ice Rink. In addition to Smithfield’s recreation, activities in Providence are only a 15 minutes away, including museums, performing arts centers, and the Roger Williams Park Zoo.
Smithfield homes are close to a variety of shopping and dining choices. The Crossing at Smithfield shopping center includes Target, Kohl’s, Ulta, Barnes & Noble, The Home Depot, and more. Local eateries include Blackie’s Bull Dog Tavern, a laidback pub that serves classic American dishes in addition to a gluten-free menu. There are also many chain restaurants nearby, including Panera Bread, Subway, Burger King, and more.
